Humanitarian Opportunities

THIS PAGE IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT

There are several opportunities available for participation and development of skills in Humanitarian medicine in the Air Force. Program leadership is supportive of residents’ efforts in this area. Examples of activities residents have participated in include the following:

  1. ┬áMilitary Tropical Medicine – a two part course that takes place annually at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences. Part 1 involves 4 weeks of didactics and laboratory diagnostics in diseases relevant to tropical and infectious diseases of concern to the US military. Part 2 consists of a two-week field course that takes place in several established partner countries including Peru, Ghana, Tanzania, Liberia, Honduras, and Argentina (the country list may change). For more information see pictures below (coming soon) and visit here.
  2. Healing Peru – a non-profit organization started by a former Eglin resident. For more information see pictures below (coming soon) and visit their facebook page.
  3. Medical Readiness Training Exercises (MEDRETE) – Eglin Air Force Base has been tasked several times in recent years to participate in joint service military-sponsored humanitarian missions and residents are regularly asked to participate. Recent missions have gone to Belize and the Dominican Republic.
