Part of the mission of the residency is to provide education for third and fourth year medical students in family medicine.
Third year medical students rotating with us get a broad introduction into family practice including time spent involved in our outpatient clinic, inpatient care, OB and procedures. Fourth year medical students get a similarly broad experience, with additional opportunities to experience flight medicine or other areas of the medical group unique to the Air Force.
Any medical student from any school in the country can rotate with us. We highly encourage anyone interested in our residency to arrange a rotation at the residency. There are also opportunities to rotate in other clinics.
To be eligible for a position at the Eglin AFB Family Practice Residency, you must be accessioned as a commissioned officer of one of the uniformed services (Air Force, Army, Navy, or Public Health Service) at the time of application. This is normally done through the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) or Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).
If you are not in the Air Force but are active duty in another service, you are still eligible for the residency. However, taking medical officers from other services is infrequent and is done on a case-by-case basis.
